Your Patio Door Sounds Like It's Grinding on Gravel — Here's Why

You grab the handle, push… and instead of gliding, the door growls like it's dragging an anchor. Sound familiar? In South Florida this is one of the most common "I'll fix it later" problems — and it's doing real damage while you wait.

Why it happens HERE

1. 🏖️ SAND. Our Florida sand gets everywhere — it packs into the track and turns it into sandpaper under your rollers.

1. 🧂 Salt air eats the rollers — the little wheels under the door corrode, flatten, or seize up entirely. After a few years of ocean breeze, they often just quit.

1. 🛢️ Grease makes it WORSE — WD-40 or oil in the track mixes with sand and hardens into a grinding paste. It's the opposite of a fix.

What you can do yourself

• Vacuum the track thoroughly and wipe it clean
• Spray SILICONE lubricant (not oil) on the track — sand won't stick to it
• Find the roller adjustment screws at the bottom of the door — a small turn can lift it back to level

Where DIY ends

• If the rollers are flat or cracked — they need replacing, and the glass panel is HEAVY. One wrong move and it's a shattered door plus a very bad day.
• If the track itself is bent or the door jumped off the track — that's pro territory.

Honest pricing: most sliding-door jobs — clean-up, tune-up, roller swap — fit comfortably in the first hour ($80). If the rollers are seized solid and the whole panel needs lifting with new hardware, it's a bigger job — but I'll tell you the exact price upfront before I touch anything.
