Your 65-Inch TV Is Hanging on Hope — Why Mounts Rip Out of the Wall

Your 65-Inch TV Is Hanging on Hope — Why Mounts Rip Out of the Wall

Let me guess: you hung it yourself, used the screws from the box, tugged it once and thought "feels solid." Now every time someone bumps the wall, you hold your breath. I get the rescue visit AFTER the TV takes half the drywall down with it. Let's talk BEFORE that.

Why TVs rip out of the wall

  1. ❌ Screws into bare drywall. Drywall is basically chalk and paper. Those little screws from the box hold NOTHING without a stud behind them.
  2. ❌ "I found a stud" — that was drywall. Cheap stud finders beep at everything: pipes, wires, air. A TV needs the WOOD stud, dead center, lag bolts.
  3. ❌ Concrete block walls (half of South Florida!). Many Broward homes are block construction — drywall screws in block are a joke, you need masonry anchors.
  4. ❌ Above the fireplace. Heat + a heavy TV on a tilt arm slowly works the mount loose. You never notice until the lean starts.

DIY is fine when

  • Real stud finder (magnetic ones don't lie — they find the actual screws).
  • Wood-stud wall, TWO studs hit with lag bolts, not one.
  • TV 55 inches or under with the RIGHT hardware.

That's my job when

🔧 Block or concrete wall — wrong anchors = disaster.

🔧 Full-motion arm mount — it multiplies the pull force on the wall.

🔧 Over 65 inches — one wrong guess and it's a four-figure accident.

🔧 You already hung it and it LEANS. Don't wait — send me a photo.

Honest cost

TV mount install is a one-visit job: $80 the first hour, $60 each hour after, $80 minimum per visit. And while I'm there — bring me the other "I'll fix it someday" stuff. 🙂
